The GANESH CYCLONE-25 CS is a 7-axis 1.0 (26mm) bar diameter sliding headstock CNC lathe without a guide bushing, which facilitates faster setups, greater workpiece concentricity, and superior cutting rigidity over conventional Swiss-style lathes. The CYCLONE-25 CS configuration also allows for shorter cycle-times because the Counter Spindle can work simultaneously with the Main Spindle. The CYCLONE-25 CS does not require the use of ground barstock like the Swiss-style machines must use, which represents an additional costs savings when using this machine design. The CYCLONE-25 CS CNC screw machine configuration also allows for shorter cycle times due to the enhanced rigidity and the ability to aggressively rough-out material and finish with a second tool, all while achieving greater tool life. The CYCLONE-25 CS can use as many of the 27-available tools as necessary to rough and finish a feature on the workpiece, unlike conventional Swiss machines that are limited by the length of the guide bushing, and must make the rough and finish cut with one-tool in one-pass. These advantages are particularly evident in shorter work pieces with lower length-to-diameter ratios than when machining with a conventional Swiss-style lathe using a guide bushing.
The GANESH CYCLONE-25 CS lathe features a total of 27-tool stations. The Main Spindle uses 18-tools, which comprise of a bank of 4-live cross tools, a bank of 3-axial live tools, 6-turing tool stations, and 5-ID tool stations, all in a gang configuration. Additional cutting tools can be utilized in machining the workpiece by double-tooling the ID-tools stations with dual insert boring bar holders for rough and finish boring, boring and turning, boring and threading etc. The Counter Spindle provides an additional 9-tools for machining the second side of the workpiece.
The CYCLONE-25 CS Main Spindle has a 7.5 X-axis stroke, a Y-axis travel of 11 for full off-centerline machining capability, and the Z-axis has 6.5 of headstock movement. The high performance full-featured rotary C-axis has 360,000 positions (0.001-degree resolution) for engraving and other complex radial machining details. The 5-station fixed ID gang tooled slide can use solid bushings or ER-20 collets to hold cutting tools. All of the rotary tooling included with the machine also uses the same ER-20 collets for tool shanks up to ½ (13mm). The Counter Spindle has an X-axis stroke of 11.53, a Y-axis of 11.61, and a full-featured rotary C-axis with 360,000 positions (0.001-degree resolution) for engraving and other complex radial machining details.
The 7480-pound GANESH CYCLONE-25 CS is equipped with a 5-horspower Main and Counter spindle motors, each with a 6000-rpm spindles. The machine features rigid tapping and a PC-based control with program assist for fast and easy canned cycle development for efficient programming at the machine, and also uses standard EIA coding for off-line programming using the RS-232 port and a 3.5 floppy disk drive for program transfer.
This compact machine comes complete with a parts catcher, and hydraulic cylinder and includes a Brown & Sharp Dead Length #21 collet chuck for barstock up to Ψ1. A complete line of barfeeders and automatic barloaders for 3, 6 and 12 barstock is available for unattended high-production machining applications.
Machine Bed -
The one-piece machine bed and base casting is made of a high-density Meehanite processed cast iron structure that is heavily ribbed to increase lateral stiffness and maximize stress absorption during the turning process. The torque-tube casting is perfectly symmetrical to ensure that no twisting occurs in the bed during heavy cutting or as a result of thermal migration. The low center of gravity cast bed weighs nearly 6,000 pounds and the design gives superb vibration control, which provides for superior surface finish and increased tool life. The assembled machine weighs over 7,480 pounds making it the heaviest machine in its class.
Machine Ways
All five axis; X, Y, Z, X2 & Z2 utilize heavy-duty linear ways made in Germany by the prestigious INA Linear Way Grόppe to ensure sustained high accuracy machining results. The faster rapid traverse rates reduce non-cutting time and the low stick/slip characteristics of the INA liner way design ensure superior complex workpiece shape definition because the axes follow the control contour commands more exactly.
Ballscrews & Bearings
Premium quality double-nut ballscrews and guideways are utilized to ensure high accuracy and long service life. The ballscrew nuts are preloaded and forced lubricated and are laser aligned during machine assembly. The ballscrew rotational torque is checked over the entire travel length to ensure a non-binding assembly so as to minimize wear and thermal migration that would adversely effect machine accuracy.
Machine Spindle -
The machine spindles are supported in two matched-sets of high quality NSK Class-7 (P4) bearings, which are lubricated for life. The spindles are dynamically balanced to eliminate vibration for better surface finish and workpiece accuracy. This extra attention to detail in assembly produces a spindle that generates less heat and maintains a longer operational service life. Every spindle is put through a 72-hour test run prior to assembly that records any thermal gradients or spindle vibration. This process ensures many years of trouble-free production usage. The spindle is driven by a multi-ribbed offset drive belt to enhance the cutting torque power range for more efficient metal removal over a wider range of spindle speeds.
Spindle Motor -
The spindles are both driven by highly reliable Mitsubishi MEL-PRO series motors designed specifically for heavy-duty machine tool applications. The motors are balanced within 5-microns to provide state-of-the-art surface finishes. The motors are designed with less rotor inertia that standard induction motors and features a large diameter output shaft and heavy-duty radial load bearings for a long service life. This means faster acceleration/deceleration rates and reduced cycle time for increased productivity. The Mitsubishi MEL-PRO series motor is matched to a Mitsubishi MEL-PRO servo amplifier module which provides a variable current to the spindle motor ensuring high reliability and accuracy in angular positioning for superior thread-start positioning, engraving, and other live tool machining where accurate angularity is required.
For Bar work, 2nd Operation machining, & Chucking work, all with subspindle capability!
Brushless Axis Motors -
All three axis motors use the high-performance Mitsubishi MEL-PRO Brushless AC servo motors that provide for less wear and are totally enclosed to ensure no dust or damage to the motor for increased reliability. This Brushless AC motor design improves productivity by accepting higher voltages and increased current for faster acceleration and deceleration. All six Mitsubishi MEL-PRO motor amplifies are contained in a separate electrical enclosure that has its own heat exchanger to maintain the appropriate operating temperature.
Automatic Lubrication System
The automatic lubrication system operates on a timed interval and monitors low oil level and will stop the machine at the end of the current cycle if a fault condition occurs. The lube system is housed in a recess in the casting to ensure that it cannot be damaged by any passing shear hazard. A meter valve regulates oil flow, which is pumped at timed intervals through nylon tubes to distributor orifices at the ways and ballscrews.
